Modes of Storytelling

English Language Arts: 30 Day Unit

Video games offer unique types of storytelling that can be difficult to portray in other mediums. This unit will utilize three video games as the main texts to be “read.” These games will be supplemented with various fiction and non-fiction articles/texts as students progress through the unit. The three games for this unit are Journey, Tacoma, and Life is Strange 2: Episode 1. The final assessment will ask students to choose one of the games and answer one of the following questions:

  • Is visual storytelling an effective way to tell a story? - In reference to Journey

  • Is non-linear storytelling an effective way to tell a story? In reference to Tacoma

  • Are dialogue choices an effective way to tell a story? In reference to Life is Strange 2: Episode 1

Journey: Developed by Thatgamecompany - Rated 10+
